Why You Hate Your Clothes
By Robert Lipply
Like many women, my wife has a closet full of clothes, and still when it’s time to dress up even a little, she feels like she needs to run out to the store to buy something new. The reason is often unclear. But I believe one of the reasons, is that she should have spent more money purchasing a quality item the first time, than buying an inexpensive item that only lasts a few washings. She has a few staple items such as a great black top, her favorite black pants or jeans, a silk dress and a pair of heels that she went the extra mile on and paid a little more for. But she often finds herself pairing them with a cheap top which looks fabulous the first time she wears it, but not so great the other times. The problem starts when we go shopping. The price tag of the lesser quality items is so much more appealing to her. But when she adds up her fall wardrobe, she’s spent $100s of dollars on clothes that she will have to throw out at the end of the season. On the other hand, those favorite black pants I have seen her wear dozens of times and they are now 5 years old! Why? Because they have held their value of course! The other thing I feel woman are guilty of, is buying the wrong size. My wife has have been at the store and seen a pair of shorts or pants that may be a little snug, but she’ll tell herself: “one week back at the gym and they will fit perfect.” Or she just doesn’t like the size that truly fits because she thought she’d never be that number! Well three weeks or more of not going to the gym and now they are a far cry from ever fitting again! And now, she has a pair of pants hanging in the closet with the tags on because they are too far past the 30 day return policy. If she had just bought the true size then, no matter what the magic number was, she’d be happily wearing a pair of pants that weren’t too tight, or unable to be put on at all. I had a friend who once told me she purchased the size that fit her, and then cut the tag off. So she didn’t have to see the larger number. She knew they weren’t her perfect size 8 jeans, but she truly couldn’t recall anymore if they were a size 10 or 12. She knew she needed to get back to the gym, but until that day, she had a pair of pants that fit perfect. And we all know, clothes that are too small, make you look heavier. So the next time you go shopping to get that perfect pair of pants. Remember, buy the right size, and spend the extra money to get a fabric that will withstand numerous washings and still look great!
